The University of Wisconsin–Madison established a trademark licensing program in 1988 to protect, promote and to establish a formal process for the approval of the use of its indicia (logos, names and marks). This program is currently administered under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for University Relations.
The University has licensing agreements with approximately 375 companies and its trademark licensing program has generated more than $46 million in net revenues since 1988.
Individuals, groups and organizations seeking to use University indicia must obtain prior approval from the Office of Trademark Licensing.
